6 Steps To Consider When Preparing For A Camping Trip

Camping is one of the things that you do to take a break, and relax from your work during the holidays or when you are on a leave. You can be alone or with your family. You may move with families on such trips to strengthen or restore the closeness in of your relationships that are eroded by being busy during the working days. You may also be wanting to go out alone to reflect and think deeply about things that are happening in your life and finding meaning in whatever you are doing.

But do you know where you are going to camp, the one you are to camp with, the things that you will need on this trip or when to get these things? This article will try to answer some of these questions by giving you the things that you should do when preparing for a camping trip.

1. Know where you are going with

It may be a group of friends or your family. You should know their health conditions like allergies or asthma so that you can prepare in case these illnesses strike. You should also know their phobias to try to avoid them.

2 Know where you are going.

Research for a camping place where many people have gone before. You can do this by asking friends or asking tour agencies. I think friends are better than the agents as they will give you an honest feedback about any place that they have visited, unlike tour agencies that may recommend places just because they want money from these places. You can also search on the web for camping places around your area or ones that you can easily access.

3. Know the essentials on or around the campsite

All campsites are not the same and that’s why you should research about the things that you are to find one or around the campsite. Like the nearest water source, grocery store, hospital or the ease of getting firewood. You should also know the restrictions in that area like fire restrictions in the woods.

4. Know where you are to sleep

Are going to be sleeping in a camp house, tent or cabin car. You should know how you are going to be sleeping and make prior arrangements, like purchasing a tent, buying or hiring a cabin car or make reservations for a camp house.

5. Plan the meals that you will take on the site

Plan for the meals that you are going to move with on the trip and the schedule for taking these meals. The meals should be easy to cook and carry. They should be able to last for a longer time. If you are to take perishable food, you should eat it first before it goes bad. You should also carry snacks with you and soft drinks.

6. Organise your equipments

It is good to organise your equipment a few days before your departure date to prevent panicking and forgetting some important things on the last day. Research about the weather in that area and carry the necessary gear like raincoats and gumboots if it is expected to rain.

Some of the equipment that you may need are:-

  • Tent
  • Mattress/ floor mat/ blanket
  • Stove
  • Tourch or headlamp
  • Match box
  • First aid kit
  • Sharp knife/ small cooking pans

You should avoid over packing and try taking lightweight things. Bulky baggage will make your movement difficult and reduce your enjoyment of the journey.
